Monday Mad Props: Michael Arras

We’re a little obsessed with coffee tables right now. Since moving into our studio last August, we haven’t been able to find a coffee table that suits our needs and taste. We got a temporary one from IKEA because, well, that’s where we got most of the main office furniture. Yet it’s never felt quite right.

Then we found this table:

Crafted by Portland, Oregon-based Michael Arras, it is a 30″ x 23″ birch plywood table stained orange. We love it. We also love the other furniture he features in his Etsy shop, although he primarily makes custom furniture. The lines of his creations are amazing: sophisticated with a touch of post-modernism, simple and timeless yet bold and playful.

We also love this red wood side table (available from his store in several colors):

Beautiful designs and so unique – love where he found his inspiration for the circle tables. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I super dig both pieces.

Love the new design Marlynn, I’m partial to birds so it’s blissful to me! Personally don’t think it’s too loud or too girly in the least bit…and I want that table!
    Congrats :)

Ooh, love his tables! Maybe someday when the kids aren’t so hard on everything. Much better than Ikea!

Thanks for stopping by & commenting on the new blog! Be sure to check Michael’s Etsy site. Amazing craftsmanship.

Claire, I love birds and trees. When the design trend goes away, I will still be devoted to my trees and sweet birds :)

Brenna – you are right: LOVE these pieces, but we might wait until the kids are older to invest. Our kids are pretty hard on the furniture!

    Angela – they’re droolicious.

Amy – just checked out your site. I swear we’ve connected before in a past life. Maybe for the Bravo guide when I worked on wedding invites? Thanks for stopping by. Love your blog & website too!

Hi Marlynn. Yes, I did work at Bravo for many years in my past life. I launched SimplyFine in 2006 after becoming a mama and freelancing on the side for so many Bravo clients.
Stumbled over here while checking out Mamapreneurs, Inc.
Event Bliss. It’s all coming back now. Love your designs!

a-ha! Amy, I knew your name was familiar for a reason. Portland=3 degrees of separation :) fun to connect with you here! We changed from Event Bliss to Urban Bliss about a year ago, since we’ve moved away from doing weddings and more identity design and direct e-tailing. I’ll still do custom invites for special clients though.

Let me know if you have any Q’s re: Mamapreneurs too: marlynn(at)mamapreneursinc(dot)com. Always great to have more designers in the group!

You read my mind! I had just added him to my favorite sellers on Etsy yesterday and then saw that you blogged him. LOVE his tables!

  9. Eric says:

Very fun window! I’m so excited for you. What a cool gig.

    Mary – great minds… :)
Eric – thanks! it was time our old design blog got a makeover so we decided to start from scratch.
